Well what would you know – signing up with Kanye West’s G.O.O.D Music might just get you a shot at Hollywood!
D’banj has taken his career up a notch by featuring in his first ever movie.
The movie titled ‘Cruel Summer’ and produced by G.O.O.D Music boss Kanye West was filmed in Qatar a few months back and features other label acts Big Sean, Mr Hudson, Pusha T, Kid Cudi, Teyana Taylor, Prince Cy Hi along with D’banj.
The movie which is based around Romeo and Juliet’s story premiered at theCannes Film Festival last night Wednesday, May 24, 2012 with the G.O.O.D Music acts present. Kanye’s girlfriend Kim Kardashian was also in attendance.
‘Top of the morning to you! I’m fresh off the plane from Cannes and off to see some very special people in Plumstead’, D’banj tweeted some hours ago.
The movie is meant to serve as a build to the G.O.O.D Music debut compilation also titled ‘Cruel Summer’.
According to YBF, GQ Senior Editor Logan Hill who was present at the premiere tweeted out some details about the film;
Cruel Summer is the story of a Lamborghini car thief who falls for a beautiful blind Arabic girl who’s father will let them marry if he can help her see. So he (Kid Cudi) does using strings that lead her around palace to play music.
Kanye West says it’s a work in progress but it’s wildly stylish, huge booming soundtrack, Vanessa beecroft production design. Immersive fun.
Kanye says he had to get script approval in Qatar. He needed 20 camels, 100 extras, and around 20 Lambos.
His female star (Sarah A., an intern at Doha Film Institute, pictured above) is the star of Cruel Summer.
The film features fashion he designed and pieces by local Arabic designers, shot in 4 days, 3 months start to almost-finish.
